Our story begins at the time of our 20 week ultrasound. What initially was one of the most exciting times of our lives (finding out we were having a baby girl), quickly became a time filled with fear and worry. We knew we'd be finding out the sex of our baby, but what we didn't know was that we'd also find out that our daughter would have multiple heart defects.
With very little time to celebrate our daughters birth into the world, she was taken back for her first surgery at four days old. This was followed by another, and another, and another, and another....and another. Six surgeries in the first year of her life, each one never getting easier than the last. Through all of these experiences, however, we continually witnessed how strong, courageous, and resilient our little Heart Warrior is. This term became so obvious to us as we watched our baby girl fight through each surgery and everything that came with it. Although it seemed like an eternity to get to where we are, we can happily say that our daughter is home and doing well.
Ultimately, having gone through these experiences, we decided we wanted to do something to raise more awareness for CHD's and find a way to give back to research. We know that without the technology and advancements in medicine, our daughter would not be where she is today. In addition, we also wanted to find clothing and gear that not only would raise awareness, but that could be a regular part of our wardrobe. That's when we came up with the idea for CHD Apparel Co! Our goal is to provide clothing and gear that you can wear as every day attire, all while raising awareness for the number one birth defect in the world.
